A full schedule awaits the over 300 cadets from the Philippine Military Academy who arrived in Zamboanga City Thursday, May 11 for their 5-day PMA Southern Tour 2017.

Upon arrival yesterday, the cadets were accorded arrival honors at the Western Mindanao Command which was followed by a courtesy visit to Wesmincom Chief MGen. Carlito Galvez.

At 1pm yesterday, the group, composed of senior and junior officers, called on City Caretaker and Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde in City Hall where an open forum related to the city’s  outlook, security issues and other matters were discussed.

From City Hall the cadets proceeded to the 3rd Air Division and later to the Regional Police Office and eventually to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NAVFORWEM) for a series of courtesy visits and tour of facilities. Courtesy calls are also set at Task Force Zamboanga.

Today, the cadets will have a city tour and a series of media appearances and booths display in malls to promote PMA as the academy seeks to recruit the best, brightest and fittest applicants for the military service. They will also have an interaction with students at the Wesmincom gym at 3pm.

On Saturday, May 13, the cadets will have a silent drill exhibition at 10am at the Wesmincom grandstand where the cadets will showcase their finest movements in military marching and formation, followed by the launching of host parents program at 1pm at Centro Latino.

Sunday, May 14 will be another full day for the cadets, as they will perform another silent drill exhibition at 9am at Paseo del Mar followed by the Hop Ceremony at Centro Latino at 6pm.

The PMA Southern Tour is an educational tour to various AFP units in the country to provide them better appreciation of the organization that they wish to join after graduation. The same activity seeks to promote and advertise PMA in Zamboanga City.  (Sheila Covarrubias)
