The Regional Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council convened for a meeting at the Municipal Gymnasium of Mabuhay municipality in Zamboanga Sibugay last Friday.

Topping its agenda was an overview on the illegal drug situation in Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Public Safety Company Commander PSupt Muammar Mukaram presented to the crowd the tactical plan to fight illegal drugs and terrorism.

In his message, Police Regional Office-9 Billy Beltran encouraged Sibugay residents to cooperate in addressing the peace and order problems in the province, especially issues concerning the proliferation of illegal drugs.

Beltran referred to the illegal drug menace as the “root of all criminality.”

“Peace and Development can be fully addressed through the convergence of efforts among the different sectors and stakeholders and not only of the security sector,” Beltran said.

The Olutanga Vanguards, a private sector initiated group, pledged their commitment to help destroy the illegal drug apparatus in the province.

For his part, 42nd Philippine Army Brigade Commander Col Jacinto Bareng also pledged his commitment to support and assist the residents of three island municipalities.

Also discussed during the meeting were plans and programs on how to improve the interoperability of the security sector in the conduct of internal peace and security operations.

This was focused on three island municipalities of Mabuhay, Talusan and Olutanga said to be experiencing problems in criminality. (Ma. Cristine Carzada)
