The Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) is set to start the relocation of hundreds of electric posts which will be affected in road widening projects along the stretch of the Zamboanga city- Labuan road.

ZAMCELCO Board Vice President Michael dela Zerna said that nearly two hundred posts will be affected by the road construction projects.

Dela Zerna said that they have to comply with the request of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) the office tasked to implement the nationally-funded projects in the city’s west coast.

Materials and equipment needed for the relocation have already been purchased and made available to Zamcelco field personnel.

“It is not easy to relocate our existing power lines.  We have to follow certain procedures and must ensure that this relocation job will not affect the power supply to our member consumers catering to the affected area,” said Dela Zerna.

He explained that the process will entail removing the old electric posts and replace it with new ones together with putting up new distribution lines and standard electric cables.

Recall that in a recent coordinating conference called by the DPWH, all utility providers and telecommunication firms, were given until the end of the month to clear their respective utility facilities within the right-of-way area of the ongoing road-widening project in the city’s west coast.  (Bhong Simbajon)
