A Barangay Kagawad and a Barangay Tanod of Putik were found positive for drugs during a surprise drug test held last May 10.

Liga ng mga Barangay President, Councilor Gerry Perez, identified the barangay kagawad as Rosendo Garcia and the barangay tanod as Eliner Perez.

The drug test was reportedly conducted during a forum held by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on drug prevention in the community.

Participants were surprised when the drug test was announced after the forum.

Councilor Perez during an interview over RMN-Zamboanga said that the barangay tanod was immediately dismissed from service while Garcia’s case was forwarded to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for  summary procedure.

Perez said that Garcia has not been seen at the barangay office since testing positive for drugs.

Perez added that he will file the appropriate complaint against Garcia and he will let the proper agency conduct the procedure in handling the case to give the proper sanction to the latter as stated under the law.  (Dan Toribio)
