The PNP Retirees Association Inc. (PRAI) is supporting a pending Congressional bill to increase the mandatory retirement of all AFP and PNP personnel from 56 to 60 years old.

Senate Bill 1436, authored by Senator Allan Peter Cayetano, is now scheduled for second reading at the Philippine Senate.

If approved, the bill increases mandatory retirement age for personnel of the following agencies:  Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Coast Guard.

Eduardo de Guzman (Ret. Chief Insp) Police Retirees Association Inc. President, said that his organization expresses full support to the bill explaining that older members of these agencies can still work even if they have reached the present mandatory age of 56.

“Maganda itong bill ni Senator Cayetano.  Sinusuportahan po namin ito dahil ang mandatory na mag retire na pulis o military o Bureau of Fire na 56 years old ay masyadong bata pa po.  Sixty years old ay tamang tama po ito,” said de Guzman.

He said that personnel who reach 56 years old can be assigned to do office work while younger members can be assigned to the front line.

De Guzman calls on the public to give their support to the bill.  (Allen Abastillas)
