Mayor Beng Climaco has instructed the City Legal Office to look into the report that an employee of the City Engineer’s Office was among the buyers locally termed as “parokyano” of an alleged drug pusher, who was arrested by the police in Divisoria about two weeks ago.

In her weekly press briefing last Monday, the chief executive said the person involved, whose identity has been withheld, will have to undergo a drug test and once the result is positive it will be subjected to a confirmatory test.

“It is up to Judge Carbon (city legal officer) to file the necessary case subject to civil service rules and regulations,” she said.

She said there have been a number of city government employees found positive for shabu in a series of drug tests and subsequent confirmatory test, but then again “our stand is to follow the civil service law.”

“Inasmuch as we want these employees dismissed outright, but we have the civil service laws and regulations to observe,” Climaco stressed.

Reports have it that about two weeks ago the police in Divisoria arrested an alleged drug pusher, whose identity was not immediately established.

During the investigation, the suspect narrated to the police the people who used to buy drugs from him, and one of them was an employee of the City Engineer’s Office.

The police have not yet confirmed independently the suspect’s allegation.-(Vic Larato)
