The Department of Social Welfare and Development-9 (DSWD-9) announced that  12 centenarians from region 9 will receive P100,000 as cash gift.

The cash gift from the government is meant to honor Filipinos who reached the age of 100 whether residing in the Philippines or abroad.

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD9 information officer said in an interview that of the 12 centenarians, six are men and six are women. The oldest is 113. Nine came from Zamboanga del Norte while three from Zamboanga del Sur.

The DSWD9 will go to the houses of the centenarians to personally give them the cash gift and letter of felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to Salvador, “It’s up to the immediate family on what to do with the money but DSWD is advising to put the money to good use for the beneficiary.”

The Centenarian Act took effect this year.

Validation is still being made by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and the DSWD in the City or Municipality where the centenarians are residing. (R.G. A A. Go)
