The Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) has declared that 60 percent of illegal drugs operations have been destroyed with the neutralization of 80 big-time drug dealers and more than 1,000 of their members across Zamboanga Peninsula.

“The remaining leaders couldn’t be located [here] in Zamboanga Peninsula. But we are going after them. We need to account [all of] them,” Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, PRO-9 director, said.

“We still have remaining 40 percent and we will not stop to run after them,” Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, PRO-9 director, told the Philippine News Agency. He said that 80 of the 136 criminal gang leaders into illegal drug trade in the region had been neutralized.

“The remaining leaders couldn’t be located [here] in Zamboanga Peninsula. But we are going after them. We need to account [all of] them,” Beltran added.

Of the 80 neutralized drug dealers, 33 were based in the province of Zamboanga del Norte; 22 in Zamboanga del Sur; 15 in Zamboanga City; and, 10 in Zamboanga Sibugay. Some of them were either arrested, killed, and surrendered.

The surrender of 58,163 drug users and peddlers have helped the police to effectively neutralize the drug operations region, he said.

“Their revelations helped us in determining their [drug dealers] operations,” he said. Region 9 is one of the regions that recorded the highest number of drug surrenderers in the country.

Sr. Supt. Noel Flores, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, said the drug dealers get supply from other areas since their was no illegal drug factory here in Region 9.

Flores said that most of the illegal drugs, especially methamphetamine, were being sourced from the neighboring province such as Lanao and Tawi-Tawi.

“Our mission is to destroy the drug apparatus. This is based on the pronouncement of President [Rodrigo] Duterte,” Flores said. (TPGJR/Darwin Wally T. Wee/PNA)
