Councilor BG Guingona refuses to agree to a proposal to include the Eleven Islands as a tourist attraction in Zamboanga city due to unfinished plans and programs in preparing the area.

This was the response of Guingona amid a continuing clamor from residents to fully open the island to visitors.

In an interview with RMN Zamboanga, Guingona, head of the Council Tourism Committee said that his committee together with the City Tourism Office and other concerned stakeholders have formed a technical working group to address all the details in tourism promotions, guest accommodation and security arrangments pertaining to the attraction.

“We are now fast tracking the plans and procedures for it to be institutionalized and be ready to accommodate visitors,” Guingona explained.

The city dad revealed that he is constantly visiting and conducting a series of dialogues with barangay officials to emphasize the role and responsibility of locals in promoting the island and in accommodating visitors who will come and visit in the future.

Guingona said that when everything is done, the local government through the Office of the City Mayor will make the necessary announcements prior to the tourist destination’s grand opening.  (Bhong Simbajon/ RMN News)
