The Department of Trade and Industry is warning the public to be careful against fraud and other gimmicks when shopping online.

Ceferino Rubio, DTI Provincial Director, warns shoppers to beware since there is still no law to protect consumers against fraudulent tactics when shopping online.

He explained that although there are laws applicable to them, authorities have difficulty running after them because they are stationed in other areas.

Rubio thus advises the public to check on the reputation of the online store.

In Zamboanga city, there has only been one registered complaint against online shops this year.

There had been three complaints filed last year.

The items involved in the complaint are cellphones and laptops, considered as costly items.

The cases were reportedly referred to DTI in Manila as the store involved is based in Manila.

Rubio is however urging complainants to come to their office if they have complaints against online shops.

The appeal of DTI came as online shops gain popularity due to the ease and convenience it offers to shoppers. (RGAAGo)
