Some 566 Bajau families displaced by the 2013 siege are now permanently resettled in Valle Vista Phase II in barangay Kasanyangan following the formal turnover of their houses on stilts in ceremonies held at the Centro Latino Tuesday.

The turnover of the 566 housing units completes the Valle Vista phase II housing package under the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) program. The first 228 units were turned over last September 28, 2016 in the presence of NHA National Manager Jun Esalada.

Mayor Climaco expressed jubilation that the Build Back better vision of the government is slowly but surely becoming a reality. She urged the beneficiaries to take proper care of the housing units as these are provided by the government to help them recover from the devastations wrought by the 2013 siege.

Engr. Indanan said the 19 housing packages under the Z3R are almost complete with only about 4 packages left- the Rio Hondo (duplex loftable), Ayer II at the Chiong property, Valle Vista III and Valle Vista IV.

Indanan projects that the construction of the houses will be completed by the end of June with the formal turnover to beneficiaries to span through September or December this year.

The Valle Vista Z3R project has four phases and will be home to 3,405 siege – affected families who can no longer return to their places of origin earlier declared as no return zones or areas of concern.

A total of 6,483 houses are targeted for construction under the Z3R and over 4,000 have already been formally turned over or awarded to beneficiaries to date. (Sheila Covarrubias)
