The apprehension of a driver for a traffic violation led to the discovery of a carnapped vehicle by personnel of the Highway Patrol Group in Maluso municipality.

The incident happened while the HPG was conducting anti carnapping operations in barangay Townsite in Maluso.

HPG flagged down a Nissan Urvan with plate number ZKZ 694 for an initial violation of not wearing a seatbelt.

When the driver, a certain Umir Sajal of Isabela City was asked to present registration papers, Sajal failed to do so.

This prompted HPG personnel to check the vehicle’s status with the Land Transportation Office (LTO.)

The unit is now impounded at the LTO office in Basilan after discrepancies were discovered on the vehicle registration. (Allen Abastillas)
