Strict security measures are being implemented in Lamitan city amid ongoing threats to security in the whole of MIndanao.

Lamitan city Mayor Rose Furigay said that security forces are on stand by in thwarting lawless elements who may attempt to destabilize the local government.

Lamitan’s entry and exit points are being guarded by combined police and military units.

Intensified visibility and random checks are also being implemented throughout the city.

“We give thanks to the military and police for guarding our city 24 hours a day.  Parents are also happy because their children come home early,” said Furigay.

The local government is supporting the imposition of Martial Law by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Lamitan city is considered a melting pot of people from other Basilan municipalities such as Tuburan, Tipo-tipo, Ungkaya Pukan, and the eastern part of Basilan province. (Allen Abastillas)
