Barangay officials were urged to be strict in releasing documents to prevent lawless groups from obtaining legal papers that they can use to misrepresent themselves.

The instruction was made by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office amid the influx of people to barangay offices to apply for documents they can use as identification papers.

Barangay officials should verify the identity of the applicant.

“We told them to see to it that when you issue cedula or barangay clearance, be sure you know personally the person you are issuing it to and they are constituents of the barangay,” said Dr. Elmier Apolinario, CDRRMO.

Los Elli Angeles, Sta Maria Barangay Captain, said that they have been strict in releasing of documents such as cedulas, barangay IDs and clearances.

The officials reportedly conduct interviews in releasing documents and even ask for a guarantor for non registered voters. (RGAAGo)
