Mayor Beng Climaco reiterates her call for residents to remain calm but alert amidst the security threats in the neighboring provinces including the ongoing Marawi conflict and the Resorts World attack.

Mayor Climaco said the police and military have been directed to continuously strengthen and tighten security in the city even as she also urged the public anew to do their share in maintaining peace and security by reporting the presence of suspicious-looking persons, items or abandoned vehicles in their area. She also  advised the residents to refrain from forwarding through text or posting in the social media unverified messages as these create panic and confusion.

“Let us continue to be on alert,” she declared adding that the local government unit is also closely coordinating with Joint Task Group Sulu Commander Gen. Cirilito Sobejana and Army’s 104th Brigade and Joint Task Force Basilan Commander Col. Juvymax Uy for the close monitoring of movements of lawless elements and to ensure that they do not enter and conduct missions in the Zamboanga City jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, the chief executive declared anew that no city-wide curfew has been imposed in the city but stressed that some barangays are implementing curfew but primarily for the protection of minors.

She directed all barangays officials who are imposing curfew in their areas of jurisdiction to coordinate with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to ensure that everything is in order.

The current situation in the city does not merit the imposition of martial law, the mayor added. (Sheila Covarrubias)
