The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has about 40,000 backlog on driver’s license with 5 year validity in region 9.

LTO 9 Regional Director, Atty Aminola Abaton said, “Umaabot sa 30,000 to 40,000 region wide ang backlog sa driver’s license bearing 5 year validity both for non-professional and professional.”

Because of this, non-professional and professional drivers are temporarily issued a paper form of driver’s license as the office is currently waiting for the deployment and production of the new drivers license cards.

Production of the cards are being done in LTO Manila while the printing is being done in LTO 9.

According to Abaton, they are expecting the cards to arrive on the last week of June.

He assured that when the new drivers license cards arrive, the backlog will be prioritized.

The new driver’s license with longer validity period will have several security features unlike the old drivers license with only 3 years validity.

“Mas convenient ito sa client at the same madecongest eventually yung influx ng client natin.” Abaton said. (R.G. A A. Go)
