The Philippine Health Insurance Office (Philhealth) is planning to enroll thousands of retired foreign nationals to avail of their program as a health-related security measure in case of sickness.

The move is contained in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) and Philhealth last May 21.

The program is targeting at least 27,000 retired foreign nationals staying in the Philippines and foreign citizens working or residing in the country.

“This is to further strengthen el collaboration between the two agencies to promote the country as a retirement haven del foreigners,” said Katherine Hicks Eustaquio, Philhealth-9 Social Insurance Officer 3.

Interested parties are invited to visit the Philhealth local offices to avail of the program.

Retirees must be holders of a Special Resident Retiree Visa, must have been granted permanent residency in the Philippines and have a PRA identification card.

Working foreign nationals must submit a valid Alien Certificate of Registration and the Philhealth Regisration form.

Retirees will have to pay P15,000 per year while working foreign nationals must pay P17,000 for the health insurance coverage.

A Philhealth insurance covers hospital room accommodation, medicines, laboratory procedures and doctors fees.

Foreign nationals however may not claim their insurance if they get sick abroad. (RGAAGo)
