Committee on Public Order and Safety Majority member and Congressman Celso Lobregat said the attack on Resorts World Manila should “serve as a wake-up call” for the country’s and the city’s law enforcement authorities at the same time call on all the stakeholders in Zamboanga City to be vigilant and suspicious amidst the heightened terror threat in the entire Mindanao region following the implementation of Martial Law in the region.

The solon said that this incident should serve as a wake-up call for our police and military authorities to cooperate closely to ensure the safety of the seat of government, business centers and areas of public convergence in the city of Zamboanga.

“Our authorities should ensure that safety measures are in place and security personnel are equipped and adept to deal with emergencies in private establishments, they must review their security plan in tandem with the different vital establishments in our city,” Lobregat said.

Zamboanga City is the staging and trans-shipment city here in Western Mindanao region which is also vulnerable to similar scenarios.

“Any similar incident can happen anytime even in Zamboanga City, but are we prepared to face it, are the authorities ready to deal with it?” Lobregat said.

Three committees of the House of Representatives on Wednesday opened their probe on the attack in Resorts World Manila, carried out by a lone gunman which left 38 people dead, mostly from suffocation.

The committees on Games and Amusement, Tourism, and Public Order and Safety in which Lobregat is a majority member, held the hearing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, just across the casino.

The hearing was chaired by Games and Amusements chairperson Parañaque Rep. Gus Tambunting, Tourism chairperson Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres Gomez, and Public Order and Safety chairperson Antipolo Rep. Romeo Acop. – Dexter Yap
