Lamitan officials are preparing a more subdued Lami Lamihan celebration this year in light of the prevailing security situation in Mindanao.

Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay said that this year’s Lami-Lamihan festival will not include the traditional parade and motorcade due to threats to security in the city.

Officials are nonetheless preparing for activities such as a dance competition and a disco party, indoor activities which are easier to secure by authorities.

“We make simple the celebrations because of the ongoing operation in Marawi city and the Martial Law situation,” said Furigay.

Security Marshall Plans are in place.  Barangay peacekeeping forces are also being prepared for eventualities.

The Lami-Lamihan Festival, scheduled on June 18, is one of two events to be celebrated by Lamiteños this month.

Lamitan city is also expected to celebrate its 10th Founding Anniversary.  (Allen Abastillas)
