A couple allegedly involved in the production of fake identification cards was arrested by police during a raid at their residence in Culianan last Wednesday.

Culianan Police Station Commander Chief Inspector Elmer Solon said that the production of falsified cards was carried out at the suspects’ residence which also housed their business, an internet cafe.

The raiding team was able to confiscate four desktop computer sets, computer accessories, a printer, one laptop computer and accessories, a laminator gadget and two PLDT routers.

The raid was carried out on the strength of search warrants issued by Judge Gregorio dela Peña of the Regional Trial court for violation of Revised Penal Code provisions on Falsification of Public Documents and Usurpation of Authority.

Solon said that the police learned about the illegal operation after receiving complaints from victims alleging that the Bureau of Internal Revenue identification cards that the couple gave them were falsified.

The police conducted surveillance which led to the arrest of the couple.

The raid was made by joint operatives of Police Station 4 with personnel of PCG-FSSWM, D-2, 3AD PAF.

The couple will be charged for Falsification of Public Documents and Usurpation of Authority.

It will be recalled that the city government of Zamboanga ordered the implementation of a ‘No ID, No Entry’ policy in view of the prevailing security situation and the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao. (Dan Toribio)
