Amid continuing offensives in Marawi city, the Archdiocese of Zamboanga is asking the Catholic faithful to distinguish between terrorists and good Muslims engaged in the conflict.

The Archdiocese made the call following the reported vandalism of a Marawi church by terrorists in Marawi.

“The church condemns the terroristic acts, el trabajo del maga terrorist.  Debe kita maga Catholics man distinguish kita, ese maga ta quema iglesia, ta hace malo santo, ta quema letrato de Santo Papa, hende debe desculpa na maga Muslim,” said Rev. Father Marciano Villagracia, Zamboanga Archdiocese Spokesperson.

Villagracia explained that Muslims are good people and these are the work of terrorists.

The Archdiocese of Zamboanga is also urging people to be calm and pray for the terroristic acts to stop.

He also said that good stories such as Muslims helping Christians must also be highlighted to help other people understand the situation.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops of Mindanao also condemns the terroristic acts that have caused loss of many innocent lives, burning of homes and public buildings, a protestant school dormitory and a Catholic cathedral.

This also includes the kidnapping of teachers, church personnel, Fr. Teresito Suganob, and others.

The church is appealing for the hostage takers to release the hostages unharmed.

“It’s an ideology that is totally against the tenets of any religion of peace. Especially so when terrorism is perpetrated while our Muslim brothers and sisters are doing the fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan.” The Bishop’s statement said.

The statement was signed by Orlando B. Cardinal Quevedo, Archbishop of Cotabato. (RGAAGo)
