Continuous rise in the volume of water flowing through the water intake in Pasonanca prompted the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) yesterday afternoon to alarm people in low lying or flood prone areas.

Per advice from the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), the water level at the Pasonanca intake has reached 75.90 meters exceeding the normal level of 74.20 meters as of 2:33pm yesterday due to heavy downpour in the forest.

The City Administrator’s office, which acts as the CDRRMC action officer, has alerted all
Council member-agencies and the barangays concerned to be ready for any eventuality that may arise, as a result of the rising water level.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo has also alerted his social field offices to monitor situations in their area and immediately report to the main office for proper action.

The ZCWD warned that the water level would further increase if and when the heavy downpour continues.
Barredo advised constituents especially those residing along riverbanks to be on alert against possible floods. “Don’t panic but be always vigilant”.
