The Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) is offering free tuition for indigent students who will enroll  in their fourth year of college for this school year.

ZCSPC President Dr Nelson P. Cabral disclosed that the free tuition was made possible under a joint memorandum between the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Management allocating P19-million in funds to the school for this year.

The offer is available to indigent students who can present a Certificate of Indigency from the local government unit, a tax exemption for their parents from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and a barangay Certificate.

Although tuition is free, the student must pay fees for miscellaneous and other school expenses.

Fees can be partially paid upon enrollment and must be completed before the end of the semester.

The program is not applicable to students who are already availing of other scholarship programs with a budget of P15,000 per semester.

The free tuition program is based on a promise by President Rodrigo Duterte to provide free education to the less fortunate.  (Allen Abastillas)
