The Land Transportation regional office (LTO-9) is considering the decentralization of motor vehicle registration in the region to respond to the increasing number of newly acquired motor vehicles.

Atty. Aminola Abaton, LTO Regional Director, said that the idea was brought about by several complaints from Pagadian city residents to establish a motor vehicle registration office in Pagadian city due to the big number of new motor vehicles being registered.

Motor vehicle owners reportedly complained that vehicle registrants are burdened with more expenses when they come to Zamboanga city to register with the LTO Regional Office.

The establishment of a motor vehicle registration office is expected not only to serve Zamboanga del Sur residents but vehicle owners as far as Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur,  Ozamis city,  and Dipolog city in Zamboanga del Norte.

Abaton said that other LTO offices in the country are starting to decentralize their registration offices such as those in the Caraga Northern Mindanao regions and Region 1.

Motor Vehicle Registration offices are currently located at the LTO office at the town proper and at the Zamboanga Ecozone. (Allen Abastillas)
