A construction worker was shot and wounded by a Zamboanga del Sur fugitive in barangay San Roque last Wednesday.

Sta Maria Police Station Commander Chief Inspector Joseph Ortega identified the victim as Manolito Espina y Abiner, married, and a resident of 3rd Street, San Roe, San Roque.

Espina was reportedly shot by Roldan Lipasana y Ocapan, 32 years old, a resident of Bukang Liwayway, San Roque and a native of Poblacion San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.

Initial investigation showed that Espina and two of his neighbors were having a drinking session when Lipasana suddenly appeared and shot the victim.

The victim, who sustained bullet wounds in the right arm and abdomen, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police, meanwhile, conducted hot pursuit operations which led to the arrest of the suspect.

The motive was said to be work-related as both suspect and victim were working in one construction firm.

Lipasan is listed as the top 4 Most Wanted Person in San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur and has a pending Warrant of Arrest for Frustrated Murder with a recommended bail of P200,000.

The warrant was issued by Judge Edilberto Absin of Branch 29, Regional Trial Court of San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. (Dan Toribio)
