The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) has implemented its free tuition scholarship program for all graduating students this year.

ZSCMST President Milavel D. Nazario said that the scholarship grant is embodied under Joint Memorandum Circular 2017-A issued on May 18, 2017 by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Budget and Management.

It is more commonly known as the 2017 Free Tuition Policy in State Universities and Colleges or Free Tuition 2017.

The coverage of the policy includes all Filipino students enrolling in undergraduate courses in state universities and colleges for the academic year 2017- 2018.

This year however, the P11-million funding allocated to the school was only able to benefit fourth year graduating students of ZSCMST.

“We hope that the CHED and the DBM will increase the funding so that it will cover first year to fourth year students,”  Nazario said.

Student beneficiaries must submit  their parents’ Income Tax Return for proof of income and/or BIR Certificate of Exemption from filing of ITR, Barangay Certificate for Indigency, and a Certification from the DSWD.

If parents are overseas workers, students must submit the Certificate of OFW and other documents indicating income of family members who will shoulder school expenses. (Allen Abastillas)
