The City Health Office (CHO) has reminded canteen owners to secure their sanitary clearances prior to serving students in schools.

Documents required include the following: health permit, sanitary permit and health cards of those who will be serving food inside the canteen.

City Health Officer Dr Rodel Agbulos said that he already sent sanitary inspectors to check the sanitary permits and health cards of existing school canteens and workers.

The inspectors are ensuring that safe, clean and nutritious food are being served in school canteens.

Agbulos urged parents to tell their children to purchase food from school canteens and not from stalls peddling street food outside the school.

“No sabe kita pakimodo sila ta prepara el comida.  Na canteens tiene maga sanitary inspectors ta chequia,”  Agbulos said.

Buying from school canteens is also deemed advantageous because it will be easy to trace the source of food in case of food poisoning.

The most beneficial however is for parents themselves to prepare the food for the students.

Agbulos however reminded residents not to allow food to sit for a long time prior to being consumed so the food will not spoil.  (RGAAGo)
