The bypass road will be closed at night to prevent accidents and criminal activities from taking place along the road.

This was the recommendation by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) after an accident last Sunday which injured at least 21 passengers of a fishing truck.

The CDRRMO made the recommendation because the road is not lighted and work is still ongoing on certain portions of the road.

Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar reportedly concurred with the recommendation issued by CDRRMO.

“I would like to make it clear that the city government of Zamboanga has not, to my knowledge, issued an order for its opening or use by the public,” the Mayor said during her regular press briefing.

Climaco- Salazar prevously directed the CDRRMO to have the bypass road temporarily closed after a portion of the road required repair.

She said that she will ask the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to close the road due to accidents and other incidents occurring especially at nighttime. (Liza Jocson)
