The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has vowed to abide by an order by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar to close the bypass road during nighttime but said that the closure should be handled by city hall employees.

“The city government would be doing us a favor if we close the bypass road, but they should formally write or request from us,” said Jorge Sebastian Jr., DPWH 9 Regional Director.

Sebastian said that they have yet to receive a formal order from Mayor Climaco on the road closure.

Sebastian said that they will just wait for the offiicial communication from the city government and will act on it favorably with certain conditions.

One such condition is for the city government to assign its own personnel to handle the road closure at night.

“We do not have workers to do that literally every day,”  Sebastian said.

Sebastian gave his reaction based on questions asked by First District Congressman Celso Lobregat during the 11th Coordinating Conference last Monday.

The conference also discussed concerns and problems preventing the completion of the bypass road, particularly in the Cabatangan and Pasonanca areas where some residents reportedly still refuse to give up their properties for road construction.  (Dexter Yap)
