The Land Transportation Office-9 (LTO-9) has warned tourists and other travellers against hiring private utlity vans without the requisite franchise.

Land Transportation Office-9 Regional Director Atty. Aminola Abaton warns against the modus operandi of some private van owners to offer their vehicles to unsuspecting travellers for a fee.

Abaton said that most of these private vehicles do not have a government-issued franchise to operate as a public utility vehicle.

He explained that passengers who utilize these unregistered vehicles may put themselves in a very disadvantageous position since they cannot avail of any insurance in case of accident.

Abaton said that these vans are also included in anti -colorum campaigns by regional offices of the LTO and LTFRB and the Highway Patrol Group.

Vehicles that have become the subject of apprehension are impounded at the Zamboanga Freeport in San Ramon.  (Allen Abastillas)
