The Zamboanga City Council approved on first reading an ordinance during their regular session last Tuesday giving due recognition to the city’s centenarians.

The proposal is included in Proposed Ordinance No. 2017-26, entitled “An Ordinance Giving Due Recognition and Reward to City Residents Aged 100 years or more as part of the City’s Effort to Support Senior Citizens.”

The measure was authored by First District Councilors Rodolfo Bayot and Cesar M. Jimenez.

If approved, the measure will grant funds ranging from P50,000 to P100,000 to centenarians residing in Zamboanga city.  The exact amount to be awarded to beneficiaries will still have to be discussed.

The ordinance was referred to the Council Committees on Ordinances and Resolutions and Appropriation.

The measure will allow Centenarians to receive a fee apart from the P100,000 already being given by the national government. (RGAAGo)
