The Highway Patrol Group-9 (HPG-9) were able to intercept two vehicles believed to have been carnapped, prior to transport to Basilan province.

HPG-9 Operations Officer Sr Inspector Mervin S. Claret described the vehicles as two units of Toyota Vios with plate numbers CSYY 5007 and AAH 3298.

Claret said that the two cars were ready to be loaded on a commercial vessel bound for Lamitan city when they were intercepted by combined elements of the HPG-9, Coast Guard and Philippine Ports Authority police.

During interrogation, drivers of the two vehicles reportedly failed to present documents that will prove ownership.

Upon investigation, Claret found out that the license plates used by the cars are falsified as neither can be traced in the motor vehicle records of the Land Transportation Office (LTO.)

The two vehicles are now impounded at Camp Batalla.

Meanwhile, police found out that one of the cars is owned by a certain MS Akahashi of Makati city while the other one is owned by M.J. Farica of Ayala Avenue in Makati.

“Grabe itong dalawang drivers, very daring.  Just imagine, ikarga nila sa barko ang dalawang car without legal documents at dalhin pa nila sa TipoTipo,” Claret said.  (Allen Abastillas)
