Twin brothers and self-confessed members of the Maute Terrorist Group have surrendered to authorities in Zamboanga Sibugay last Tuesday.

Police Regional Office-9 Spokesperson Chief Inspector Helen Galvez identified the two suspects as twin brothers  Hussein Abbas y Parail and Hassan Abbas y Parail, of legal age, married and residents of barangay Kasigpitan, Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The suspects are members of the Itting Abbas Criminal Group, a notorious group involved in sea piracy, extortion and illegal drugs.

The group reportedly has links with the Maute terror group and the Abu Sayyaf.

The two supporters surrendered to Annam Dammang and Ralimson Ramiso, Mayor and Vice Mayor of Mabuhay and Talusan municipalities respectively.

The officials brought the self-proclaimed supporters  to the Talusan Municipal Police station where the latter admitted their connection with the Maute group.

The two suspects said that they decided to surrender due to pressure from government forces who have intensified their operations against Maute members and supporters in the region.

The two were placed under tactical interrogation and have undergone paraffin testing.  (Dan Toribio)
