City Health Officer Dr Rodel Agbulos has revealed plans to upgrade some health facilities in the city.

Plans include an upgrade of the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital and the construction of infirmaries in barangays Ayala, Sangali and Vitali.

A total of P14-million was allocated by the government to upgrade the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital.

The Memorial Hospital is currently classified as an infirmary having a 10 to 15 bed capacity and being ran by four doctors and nine nurses on a twenty four hour basis.

Plans include the conversion of the infirmary  into a primary hospital with a full complement of specialists.

“If we will convert it into a primary hospital, then maybe we can admit lots of patients coming from the east coast,” said Agbulos.

Meanwhile, the city government is allocating P9-million for the construction of each of the infirmaries, as included in the 2018 Executive Budget.

Agbulos explained that plans to improve the city’s health facilities are expected to decongest the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC.)  (RGAAGo)
