The Zamboanga local government has assured residents of maximum security   amid reports of terror attacks being spread in text messages and social media.

Public and private enterprises and schools continue operations today as military and police authorities operate on heightened alert.

Concerns on security started to surface yesterday after troops were spotted in barangay Kasanyangan and the reported entry of two jungkong boats in the Talon Talon area.

City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Dr Elmier Apolinario said that authorities have verified the passengers in the jungkong boats as fishermen.  Troops in Kasanyangan were reportedly on regular monitoring activities.

Earlier, residents started to get messages on possible attacks by terrorists today using gas tankers and lorries, based on information contained in an alleged Aviation Security Group report.

In a press conference yesterday, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar said that all information on possible attacks are validated and taken very seriously.

“We do preemptive measures so that terrorists will not be given the opportunity to attack,” said Climaco.

Local government officials held meetings with gasoline station owners and the Bureau of Fire Protection as a response to the report.

in the same press conference, Apolinario appealed to residents not to spread unverified text messages and instead send these to local officials for verification.  (Liza Jocson)
