A man who was found transporting a dead infant inside his luggage was held for questioning by police at the port terminal last Thursday.

The man, who was bound for Basilan, was held after x-ray machine personnel at the terminal entrance detected a baby inside his bag.

X-ray personnel informed the Coast Guard who invited the bag owner, identified as Alex Insana of Isabela city, for questioning.

Insana claimed that the dead infant was his niece who died during childbirth at the Zamboanga City Medical Center.

Insana explained that the family decided to bring the infant’s body to their hometown in Isabela city to undergo a burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Coast Guard personnel later released Insana and the dead infant after the latter was able to present health documents relative to the infant’s death.  (Dan Toribio)
