Despite a rainy Sunday, boxing aficionados trooped to places offering a free view of the “Battle in Brisbane,” the fight between Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and Australian Jeff Horn.

The gymnasium of the Zamboanga City Polytechnic College was filled to more than  capacity as boxing fans cheered Pacquiao during a free view of the fight sponsored by Congressman Celso Lobregat.

Lobregat has been traditionally offering a free view of Pacquiao fights to Zamboangueño residents.

Lobregat opined that Pacquiao should have won since Horn was battered and even slipped to the floor during the 9th round.

“We cannot argue with the judges.  It’s final but there should be a rematch,”  Lobregat said.

Boxing fans here are awaiting a rematch said to be eyed at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, at the Western Mindanao Command gymnasium, only a handful of soldiers were seen watching the free viewing of the fight.

Sources said that the usually well-attended free viewing might have been affected by the conflict between government troops and the rebels in other parts of Mindanao.
