Internet dependent businesses in Zamboanga city nearly came to a halt yesterday after telephone and internet services provided by a major telecommunications company were interrupted.

A “triple fiber break” reportedly caused the telephone and internet service interruption, said to have affected around 20,000 PLDT Zamboanga consumers.

Consumers in other parts of the region were said to also have experienced an interruption in their telephone and internet services.

The triple fiber break was said to have occurred in the areas of Pagadian, Ozamis and Sindangan at around 10:30am yesterday and continued until the afternoon. (As of press time, internet services have not resumed- Ed)

According to a PLDT source who refused to be identified, the fiber break was traced to a road widening project by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The interruption affected telephone, internet and Automated Teller Machines in banks, resulting to delays in business transactions throughout the region.(RGAAGo)
