A man shot a policeman with the latter’s own firearm then sped off using his victim’s motorcycle after a fistfight  in a Zamboanga del Sur town last Tuesday.

A police report identified the victim as PO1 Oliver Tano Apduhan, a policeman assigned at the Margosatubig Municipal Police Station.

Police Regional Office -9 Information Officer Chief Inspector Helen Galvez said that the incident happened in Purok Orchids, barangay Poblacion, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur last Tuesday.

Apduhan was driving his motorcycle when he chanced upon and figured in a fistfight with a drug surrenderor identified as Jomar Taiting.

After a few minutes, an unidentified cohort of Taiting appeared and helped the latter in fighting Apduhan.

The suspect was able to grab Apduhan’s firearm and fired the weapon towards the policeman.

Eyewitnesses said that the gunman walked away after firing at Apduhan but returned and shot the victim who was already lying on the ground.

The gunman then took Apduhan’s motorcycle and sped off, bringing the latter’s gun.

Taiting also escaped and was nowhere to be found during a follow up operation.  (Dan Toribio)
