An Abu Sayyaf member, who is allegedly fronting as a security guard, was arrested by combined military and police units during a law enforcement operation in Guiwan last Thursday.

Police Regional Information Officer Chief Inspector Helen Galvez identified the suspect as Abdulmubin Salahuddin y Kudalat.

Kudalat was arrested during a law enforcement operation at around 10:45pm along the old Guiwan highway near Callejon Drive.

Police confiscated a fragmentation grenade from the suspect’s possession.

Salahuddin was a suspect in the 2002 Sipadan kidnapping who reportedly supplied firearms to Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf.

Authorities said that Salahuddin was fronting as a security guard in the city.

Salahuddin was arrested by combined operatives of the ZCPO Intelligence Section, D2 3AD, PAF, FSSWM, W2 PAF, NICA 9, 34th Seaborne Company, 55 SAC 5th SAB PNP SAF and TFZ.

The suspect was detained at the Zamboanga City Police Office for further investigation and filing of charges in court. (Dan Toribio)
