Police have uncovered one of Malaysian nationals who was placed under verification by police as a Filipino member of the Abu Sayyaf group and a follower of ASG leader Isnilon Hapilon.

A police report has identified the suspect as Albarin Arabin y Arao.

Arabin was identified by a government witness as a certain Ustadz Namir aka Abu Amama, a sub-leader of the Abu Sayyaf group under Isnilon Hapilon.

Arabin has a standing warrant of arrest for five counts of Kidnapping and Serious Ilegal Detention issued by Isabela Judge Leo Jay T. Principe.

Arabin is one of two persons who were earlier identified as Malaysian nationals and who have undergone profiling by police.

Arabin’s companion, Abdulwajid Ibno y Mohammad, was also identified as Filipino and is still being held for verification.

The two were said to be Filipinos who went to Malaysia and have returned to Zamboanga city through the back door.

The two reportedly stayed at the house of a certain Ustadz Appah in Taluksangay and were reported to police by Taluksangay barangay kagawad Hannah Macrohon Nuño.  (Dan Toribio)
