Strong winds and rains caused a massive blackout which rendered almost the whole city without electricity yesterday.

The blackout occurred starting noontime and lasted for the next two to three hours.

Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative sources said that the blackout is due to an outage affecting two major lines of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP.)

In a text message,  National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Spokesperson Beth Ladaga said that the blackout was due to the outage of the Zamboanga-Tumaga 69kv line which was restored at around 1:35 yesterday.

Engineers found it difficult to restore power to the Pitogo- Tumaga 69kv line meanwhile after a coconut tree reportedly fell on a power line in barangay Guisao.  (Liza Jocson)
