Untitled lands in several parts of Basilan province is resulting to family feuds, more commonly known as Rido.

This problem prompted Basilan Governor Jim Salliman to visit areas in Basilan to talk  landowners into processing their land titles and pay their real property taxes.

Basilan Provincial Information Officer Alton Angeles said that most land titles have not been transferred to their new owners and are thus still under the names of old ones who are no longer residing in the province.

Most owners have transferred to escape Basilan’s security problem.

“ It is the biggest problem that Governor Salliman is now solving.  It caused a lot of family feuds and Rido between Muslim families,” said Angeles.

To further aggravate the situation, some lands have been sold twice or thrice without being transferred to their owners.

Through Salliman’s effort, landowners hope that land in Basilan will be backed up by proper documentation and thus, prevent feuds among families.  (Allen Abasillas)
