Nearly 400 employees of the local government are obese, according to a study made by the National Dietician Nutrition Committee in Zamboanga city.

The situation has prompted the City Health Office to hold the “Biggest Loser” challenge among the concerned employees to pull them down to their desired weight.

City Health Officer Dr Rodelin Agbulos said that a total of 392 city government employees are classified as obese or have a 54.5% prevalence rate of obesity.

The number represents 19% of the total number of government employees.

Agbulos said that the obese employees will be assisted by the City Nutritionist on how to obtain their ideal weight.

The CHO is also planning to hold the ‘Biggest Loser’ challenge among concerned employees as a way of helping them lower down their weight.

The contest was recently held among hospital employees in the city.

The participants were coached by their respective dieticians where the former were given a period of six months to lose weight.

Among diseases associated with obesity are hypertension, diabetes, stroke and heart diseases. (RGAAGo)
