A gunman casually drank coffee at a corner store before shooting and killing a construction worker in Sitio Catumbal, Cabaluay yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Edgardo Marcos, 53 years old, married and a resident of Cabaluay.

The incident took place past 6am while Marcos was waiting for a ride going to his work in Lunzuran.

Witnesses told police that the gunman was seen drinking a cup of coffee at a corner store along the highway prior to the murder.

When Marcos emerged from his home, the killer casually stood up, walked towards his intended victim and shot him at close range.

The gunman then rode his motorcycle and sped away.

The victim’s wife told police that her husband was working at a construction site in Jolo but went home saying that his employer was not paying him the agreed salary.

The victim also recently complained to his wife about getting threats.

Culianan police are still investigating the case for the possible identification of the suspect and the mastermind.  (Dan Toribio)
