The Regional Franchising and Regulatory Office 9 of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued an adoption order, extending until Sept. 30 the temporary route structure for public utility vehicles plying the west coast.

This, after the city government of Zamboanga through City Administrator Marie Angelique C. Go in a letter dated June 16, 2017 had requested for an extension of the temporary route structure due to the ongoing pipe laying project of the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) and the road widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The three-month extension aims to provide adequate time for both projects to be completed.

The adoption order however provided that the extension of the rerouting scheme shall be temporary and for limited duration commencing from July 1 to Sept. 30, 2017, and without prejudice to reverting back to the authorized route scheme of the affected public utility vehicles, upon completion of the pipe laying and road widening projects.

At least 15 routes are affected by the temporary traffic rerouting scheme. These are ZCPM-Ayala, ZCPM-Baliwasan, ZCPM-Cabatangan via San Roque, ZCPM-Lower Calarian, ZCPM-Maasin Interior, ZCPM-Malagutay, ZCPM-San Ramon, ZCPM-San Roque, ZCPM-Sinunuc, ZCPM-Southcom Village, ZCPM-Suterville, ZCPM-Tulungatung, ZCPM-Upper Calarian, ZCPM-Labuan vis San Ramon, and ZCPM-Limpapa.

The E0 was concurred upon by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Resolution 418 dated March 14, 2017.

On March 21, 2017, the city administrator requested the LTFRB to issue a temporary route structure for PUVs plying the west coast until June 30, 2017, pursuant to Department Order No. 2008-24 issued by the Department of Transportation and Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 series of 2008 of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

The request was made on the premise that both projects would be completed on June 30. However, works have been delayed and extended, thus the extension as well of the temporary rerouting scheme.-(Vic Larato/PR)
