The draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) does not contain a provision that will revert ARMM properties in Zamboanga city to the local government.

The City Council has thus passed a resolution, jointly and severally. to ask the national government to allow Zamboanga city to purchase the ARMM properties located in the city based on the provision of the amended Organic Act.

A provision was included under Article 18 Section 1 of the organic act allowing Zamboanga city to acquire the ARMM properties located in Cabatangan and properties of the Southern Philippines Development Authority (SPDA.)

Councilor Rommel Agan, author of the resolution, also proposed to furnish the two Representatives of Zamboanga city in Congress with the resolution so they can act on behalf of the city on the matter.

The draft BBL will undergo discussions in Congress prior to its approval as a law.

The resolution represents the latest official request from the city government of Zamboanga city on acquiring the ARMM properties.

Last February, Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar wrote a letter to President Rodrigo Duterte asking for the return of ARMM properties located in Cabatangan to the Zamboanga city government. (Liza Jocson)
