A Philippine Navy vessel rescued a distressed fishing boat off the waters of Sangali last Wednesday afternoon.

The distressed vessel was identified as the Tugboat Zamboanga Sun.  Two crew members, Boat Captain Roberto Santiago and Navigator Paterno dela Rosa, were rescued during the operation.

A distress signal was reportedly received by the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) of a fishing boat that was reportedly submerged in the area.

The NFWM sent its BA 484, a Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) to come to the aid of the distressed boat.

A statement from the Navy said that the shallow waters posed difficulty in rescuing the vessel but the vessel was finally towed to safety in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard.  (Liza Jocson)
