The Philippine Statistics Authority-9 (PSA-9) has conducted a Water Testing Survey to determine the level of e-coli bacteria in drinking water in the region.

The survey was conducted during the month of July.

“The objective is to determine the level of e-coli bacteria in drinking water to know how safe the drinking water we have,” said Ma. Flerida Tan, Supervising Statistical Specialist, PSA-9.

Two enumerators were fielded to conduct the survey on six sample households in three chosen barangays in major areas in region 9.

The three barangays chosen in Zamboanga city are Calarian, Pasonanca and Tulungatung.

For Zamboanga del Sur, the barangays of Dao in Pagadian city, Camanga in Tukuran and Nopulan in Josefina municipalities were chosen.

The three barangays in Zamboanga del Norte are Sta Isabel in Dipolog city, Sinai in Osmeña, and Libuton in Manukan municipality.

Surveyors also worked in the barangays of Poblacion Ipil, Tigbangagan Kabasalan and San Pedro Tungawan in Zamboanga Sibugay.

The survey is made in consonance with the commitment made by 193 United Nations member countries, including the Philippines, during the UN Sustainable Development Summit last September 2015.

One of the goals is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. (RGAAGo)
