1,000 fire victims housed in Basilan school Print

More than a thousand persons have been evacuated to an elementary school in Malamawi island Basilan after their houses were razed in a two hour fire in the island last Sunday.

City Social Welfare and Development Assistant Emma Bucoy said that at present fire victims have numbered 1,600 individuals.

The victims are now staying at the MS Bernardo Elementary School in Malamawi.  Some are staying with families.

Bucoy said that the City Social Welfare office has distributed lunch and food packs containing basic commodities.

Separate food packs are being prepared by the Basilan Provincial Office.

Bucoy confirmed that there is no fire truck in the island of Malamawi.  (Remus Ong)
